What is Noel Leeming Group doing to help the environment?

NLG has recognised that we can play an important part in both educating consumers and helping make it easy for them to return end-of-life equipment.
We have instigated a 'take back' scheme for relevant product categories we represent where we accept a product back for recovery or disposal at the end of its useful life.

NLG Objectives
> Minimise the amount of product that goes to landfill
> Ensure the process is cost neutral for NLG. It is not a profit opportunity for us.
> Transparent recycling process
> Where possible, provide a national solution thereby minimising the number of third parties we have to deal with.

NLG Take Back or/ Recycling Partners

Vodafone - Mobile Phones

Vodafone New Zealand and Enable Community have formed a partnership to recycle old mobiles to give to 'micro-entrepreneurs' in the Philippines. Enable Community, a not-for-profit organisation, takes the old mobiles to the Philippines where they are refurbished and handed on to small business people on the poverty line.

To hand in an old mobile is simple. Visit any Vodafone, Noel Leeming or Bond & Bond store and drop it into the recycling bin.

The recycling bins are provided by Vodafone and the phones are sent to a Freepost address.

Fisher & Paykel - Whiteware
Fisher & Paykel operate scheduled pick-ups from NLG stores.

RCN - Computers and televisions
RCN Envirocare certifies that all electronic waste it receives is handled in a manner compliant with environmental standards. RCN's reporting provides a complete audit trail.

Full Circle - Paper

EECA Fridge Round Up

NLG has being part of an EECA driven pilot whose objective is to remove from each house eligible fridges that are working condition, have a minimum capacity of 100 litres, and that to the best knowledge of the householder are at least 5 years old. Since March 8, we have traded-in approximately 600 fridges.

Energy Audit

NLG recently conducted an energy audit in our Support Office and selected stores to assess energy use and possible savings throughout Noel Leeming Group stores, support and distribution centers. It is hoped that the analysis and recommendations will provide the basis of a roll out of comprehensive initiatives company wide to decrease energy.
