What is Noel Leeming's 'Real Deal' campaign all about?
There are a number of initiatives that we've already got underway at Noel Leeming to improve our business for the good of all New Zealanders. Here are a few of them.
This year we're doing more for the community than we ever have before.
When you're buying appliances for your home, information is power.
Caring for the environment
We've got more work to do on this front, but it's important to us and should be important to every business in NZ.
- We have set a national goal to reduce our power consumption by 10%. As part of this, we have employed an external company to conduct an energy audit at three of our sites during May.
- We have contracted Carter Holt Harvey Full Circle to recycle all of our cardboard packaging nationwide.
- We currently recycle the polystyrene packaging from our Auckland distribution centre and are trying to find someone to handle this nationwide for us - please let us know if you can help.
- Vodafone New Zealand and Enable Community are recycling old mobiles to give to 'micro-entrepreneurs' in the Philippines. To hand in an old mobile is simple. Visit any Noel Leeming store and drop it into the recycling bin
- When we drop off your new purchases we'll pick up your old whiteware and make sure it's disposed of properly. For example we work with Fisher & Paykel, who de-gas your old fridge safely and recycle the scrap metal. The cardboard packaging is also recycled.
- Unfortunately New Zealand doesn't have a national recycling programme for electronic goods, so we're working with suppliers, retailers and the Ministry for the Environment to develop a voluntary e-waste programme to ensure the safe disposal of computers and televisions.
This year we're doing more for the community than we ever have before.
- We've just formed a new relationship with Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organisation that builds homes for New Zealanders in need. Noel Leeming will become their premier national sponsor, providing fundraising support, increased national exposure, goods in kind and staff members to help on the building projects.
- We also provide grassroots assistance to communities right across New Zealand, providing gift vouchers and discounts to schools, sports clubs and community groups.
When you're buying appliances for your home, information is power.
- Our store staff attend a product knowledge training session every week, to ensure they're up to date with the latest products, technology and features.
- Staff are also specifically trained to understand what it is you want and which product will best fit your needs, and can demonstrate many of the products to you in-store.
- The Noel Leeming website contains comprehensive product information for you to read, in the form of "Buyers Guides", as well as the ability to purchase online.
ENERGY STAR rated products are kinder on the environment and save money by using less power. ENERGY STAR is an endorsement mark awarded to the most energy efficient products on the market.
It is a totally independent mark, promoted in New Zealand by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).
