Fisher & Paykel's first significant leap of innovation was in washing machines. Fisher & Paykel's engineers had developed knowledge of electronic drive systems when the company designed flexible manufacturing equipment for Fisher & Paykel's assembly lines. It occurred to Fisher & Paykel that they could apply that knowledge to driving appliances and so the Brushless Direct Current Motor was invented for washing machines. This allowed Fisher & Paykel's the development of the revolutionary Smart Drive™ technology, which is the platform for all of
Fisher & Paykel's washing machine ranges.
WHAT IS SMARTDRIVE™?
It takes a lot of brainpower to make things really simple. That, in a sentence, is the essence of SmartDrive™. Traditional washing machines are made up of many moving parts. Their complexity also means there's a lot that can go wrong with them. Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive™ machines are made of just three main parts: a small computer, a flexible agitator, and a simple direct-drive motor. This means washing machines that can sense each load, use less water and run with less moving parts.
